49 yr. old white male with severe low back pain. Was seen in ER 6 days ago MRI showed herniated discs L4-5 and no traumatic injury. Edema in both feet and legs x 3 days. No n/v, hydrated, eating well. RX for hydrocodone and colace. unable to obtain hydrocodone. No pain meds since leaving ER.
1. Herniated disc is a common cause of back pain. 2. Films need to be seen to look for how much compression is caused by the disc. 3. A neurological consult would be worthwhile.
